Saturday 19th August

1.50 Arrest is the current short priced favourite this evening and on ratings it’s hard to argue with , but he has not looked that straight forward on the last two runs ; softish ground may suit but he is not one for me at the prices. A fair alternative looks to be Kemari who has proven stamina and plenty of form that would see him seriously involved no matter the ground conditions. Advised Bet 1pt ew Kemari @ 4’1

Newmarket 2.05 A good quality handicap for the grade with a couple of 3 year olds at the head of the market looking of most interest. Celtic Champion has been off the track since February but certainly has the scope to offer more this season. Divine Libra also drops in to the unexposed category , but has plenty of very good recent form and must have a cracking chance back down in grade to this company. Advised Bet Divine Libra 1pt ew @ Bet365 5 places

Newbury 2.25 Libra Tiger won with something in hand at Sandown a few weeks ago after a string of good efforts , he was left rather marooned on the outside the other day at a Racing League fixture and is much better than that. Harry Brown is another that is better than recent form figures suggest but he does seem rather weighted to the hilt at present. Whenthedealinsdone is going the other way in the weights & is reunited with William Buick who seems to get the best out of him. Advised Bet Libra Tiger 3/4 pt ew @ 6’1 / 11’2 firms offering 4 places

Ripon 2.40 This looks a very difficult puzzle to solve for this years William Hill Silver Trophy. You could name a whole host of chances , Mark Choice was third in the main event off an 8lb higher mark last year and a decent run should be forthcoming. The low draws could be favoured and another with that plus point is Prince Of Bel Lir , who is a speedy type and could grab the rail early doors. Its not a race I want to bet in however

Newbury 3.00 Spangled Mac has had some tough assignments of late but has not come down that much in the weights. Open Minded looks more an all weather type so I am not sure back on turf will be ideal. One who does appeal is Classic who returned to form with a handicap win at Sandown last month ahead of the progressive Novus; this 3yo could continue to improve now things have clicked again and he’s up just 2lb since last time too. Advised Bet Classic 1pt ew @ 11’2 / 5’1 firms offering 4 places

Ripon 3.15 Another good renewal of the Great St Wilfrid Handicap & as with the consolation race earlier in the card is looks super competitive. The low draws could be at an advantage with Monsieur Kodi who has made giant strides in handicaps in the last two seasons and was winning for the sixth time when dismissing ten rivals with ease at Goodwood two weeks ago, surging to the front over 1f out (soft; changed to heavy after the race; runner-up won on Thursday) and in no danger thereafter; 3lb rise looks lenient; low draw could be beneficial if the rain arrives; huge chance in my view. Summerghand is lurking off a good mark and if getting the breaks at the right time is sure to pop up one of these days at some point. Cairn Gorm still has handicapping scope despite a 4lb rise and he looks the most interesting of those drawn high. Advised Bet Monsieur Kodi 1 pt ew @ 11’2 / 5’1 firms offering 6 places

Newbury 3.35 Chindit was below form last time out but would have leading claims if at the top of his game now back down in grade. Jumby would be very interesting if the ground was on the quick side but I doubt he is going to take his chance on anything soft. Pogo is another that is ground dependent and would like it to remain dry. Of the rest Mammas Girl won the Nell Gwyn is fine style back in April , but has not fired since ; the ability has been shown but can she reproduce it ? . Not a race I want to get involved with with question marks of one reason or another over plenty of the runners
