Day 1 review – A quick run through the selections from day 1 . Inthepocket ran a decent enough race and was a bit unlucky not to get a clear run at things from the second last , that said the winner was in a different league , but we landed the ew money. Dysart Dynamo took a pearler of a fall at the last when looking held and was lucky do get up unscathed. He tanked along as usual , and looked to have the field in trouble but had nothing left when taking that crashing fall. Monbeg Genius looked to be produced with a winning effort , but the climb up the hill was too much and he faded into 3rd , again the ew money was safe. I was hoping Vauban would pick up a few pieces late on in the top two in the market when toe to toe for a small interest, but it was a very one sided affair with the fav winning easily . Marie’s Rock was a massive disappointment and folded very tamely , the worse bet of the day she proved. Byker the NAP of the day looked as though he would win for most of the run in , but the strength in the saddle of the winning jockey looked to make the difference close home, it was a great effort non the less and ew money was safe again. The last race proved yet anther big disappointment in Minella Crooner who stopped very quickly , he started to jump big & ballooned the fences mid race and never looked happy , it also scuppered the ITV Double which was most annoying. So not a winning day overall , but we had a couple go close and returned something from 3 of the 7 races. Onto day 2
1.30 American Mike 1/2 pt ew @ 33’1 – Looks the forgotten horse in this contest given he was runner up in last seasons champion bumper at the track. He can be forgiven a below par run last time out over a very inadequate trip. This 2m 5f is way more suitable and a decent run looks a possible at a good price
2.10 Sir Gerhard 1/2 pt ew @ 6’1 – Very talented performer and has been defeated only twice ( both at Puncehstown ) . Gerri Colombe makes the market and I would have those two much closer together in the betting given the selection was a much better hurdler
2.50 Beacon Edge 1/2 pt ew @ 14’1 / 12’1 firms offering 6 places – Came back to form last time out over hurdles and has plenty of back class ( multiple Grade 1 runs over the years ) & has been let in this very lightly off 147 . That combined with the very talented claimer ( won 2 races here yesterday ) taking extra weigh off he has plenty going for him
3.30 Editeur Du Gite 1/2 pt ew @ 11’2 – The market seems to have forgotten that he beat the two main market rivals last time out and he can do the same once again
4.10 Delta Work 1pt win @ 11’8 – Looks the one they all have to beat on his bid to retain the crown , he’s has plenty of experience of these fences and with no Tiger Roll this year its a race that is his for the taking once again
4.50 Global Citizen 1/2 pt ew @ 16’1 / 14’1 firms offering 6 places – Won this of 3lb higher last season and this has obviously been the target once again
5.30 Fun Fun Fun 3/4 pt ew @ 8’1 Bet365 5 places (NAP) – Made a hugely taking debut and was arguably even more so when winning the Group 2 at Leopardstown in February. High class mares tend to do well in this race and she certainly is that getting a chunk of weight off her male counterparts. She can follow in the footsteps of Relegate who did the same double for the yard in 2018
ITV double 1pt ew Fun Fun Fun 5 places & Delta Work firms offering 4 places ( Bet 365 have both terms )
