Newcastle 12.20 A somewhat very early start to days ITV racing card and a very tricky opener it is too. I often think these races on the straight mile course are decided by the draw and a high one at that. This is not that big a field but it can still play a role in the outcome. Both Batal Dubai & Magical Spirit have good draws in that respect and both are course winners, its hard to split their respective chances but both are at each way prices as I write this. Of there rest its hard to get any sort of handle on them
Newmarket 12.40 2 year old races are far from my forte & these types of races are open to improvers just coming from left field and I leave them alone for betting purposes. I was surprised at the current price of Point Of Attack being so big coming from a top yard & just having the 2nd outing as those from this yard do take a step forward from their opening runs , so may be that is one to watch out for
Newcastle 12.55 This looks a very close race to call with all but 2 of the 8 runners in with some sort of chance , I have tried to find an edge or two but nothing really catches my eye and the current prices are somewhat condensed in my view
Newmarket 1.15 New London comes in to this the form choice having been 2nd in the Ledger last season 7 is undefeated at this venue so it’s hard to knock his chances. Al Aasy is the obvious danger having run well in Group 1 races previously , I did think Kemari might be interesting given he may get a solo on the front end , but with just 5 runners the place market is not that appealing
Newcastle 1.30 The warm up race for the main event looks a good contest and the obvious starting point is Appier who shortened in the market all week for the main event and just failed to make the cut , the step up in trip is a question to answer but he is undoubtedly well handicapped. Mostly Sunny is a previous C&D winner & is only a pound higher than that last win & I like his chances of a decent weight. Blow Your Horn is the fast improver and comes into this on a four timer , but his run style of hold up performer is not that well suited to this track
1.50 Another small field Group race and not one I am that interested in playing at. Aldaary is one that stands out given his progressive profile , but he does not seem that solid fitness wise given his stop start career. Pogo & Jumby are solid old sticks who looks sure to thereabouts
Newcastle 2.05 Adjuvant daily bolted up when last seen and has been well supported all week for this race , he has plenty going for hime profile wise , but never a run on the all weather is a bit of a negative in my view. Golden Rules came off a roster lay off to score first time up for a small yard , although the booking of Murphy for that run should have been a clue. He is headstrong though and although a bounce run should be negated by another lay off I am not that convinced. Zoffee likes in at Newcastle and won the Vase race on this card last year , he looks solid enough but is weighted to the hilt. One I am interested in is Law Of The Sea who has run well in some very good handicaps this season , the Chester Cup & the Ascot Stakes and both form from those races looks good enough to see him go well , the new headgear as a little off putting if anything
